Shalom, and happy morning to you. In this world, people often talk about how proud they are of something: a personal accomplishment of theirs, or someone else’s; they are proud of their country, their heritage, or even their own brilliance, which they use to achieve success. Pride, as it happens, is quite normal in society, and almost everyone expresses it in one form or another, but it is a trait that Yah detests.
13 The fear of Yah is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.
—Proverbs 8:13
Anyone who is swollen with pride will eventually boast. They cannot help but let the world know what they’ve done and how, so as to show forth their wisdom. Many flaunt their possessions or boast about what they own. But Yah is also against this behavior.
23 Thus says Yah: Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am Yah who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares Yah.
