Morning Morsels 006: Unstir Your Passions

Stop your passions from blowing your witness.

View Transcript

Shalom, and happy morning to you. Has someone caused your passions to flare lately, particularly in a public setting, where people of the world have taken note of your words and actions? Well, the truth is, despite the prodding and goading of other individuals, you are obligated to not have your passions be stirred, especially when those passions lead to emotional outbursts that destroy the righteous witness you bear of Yah’s goodness, as one of his representatives in this world.

Too often we forget that this world is not our home; that we are not in our own land. We are merely sojourners among Gentiles, to whom we must be an example. That means we must constantly be aware of our words and actions, because one false move—one misspoken word—will not only blow our witness and delegitimize us as ambassadors of Yah, but it will also add the stain of sin to our record.

On this point, that of the passions that rage inside us, James asks:

1 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you?

—James 4:1
