Morning Morsels 041: Prosperity and Adversity

Who brings prosperity? And who causes adversity in your life?

View Transcript

Shalom, and happy morning to you. Many only praise Yah during times of ease and prosperity, neglecting to consider him when things get a little rough. The devil usually gets the blame for the hard times we experience in life while Yah is sometimes credited for those times of plenty we encounter every now and again.

But it is amazing how many servants of Yah fail to see that he is the cause of both circumstances. The blueprint to his method is found in Scripture. We have the account of Joseph’s imprisonment in Egypt, and the dreams he interpreted, particularly the one about the seven years of plenty and the seven years of famine. Yet this is often not enough to cement the idea in our heads that Yah still operates this way in our lives today, giving us juxtaposing experiences in order to test us and mold us after his own character. As it happens, the book of Ecclesiastes confirms this blueprint:

13 Consider the work of Elohim: For who can make straight what he has bent? 14 In times of prosperity be joyful, but in times of adversity consider this: Elohim has made one as well as the other, so that no one can discover what the future holds.
